A LITTLE CAN GO A LONG WAY…
Our Community Centre in town is used for English teaching, conducting extra-curricular activities for local children and teenagers, and running our projects. Additionally, this is where we established San Cristóbal’s first library to inspire a reading culture by providing access to reading materials in both Spanish and English for our local children.
We have our own Ecological Reserve in the Highlands, near El Progreso village, that helps to produce endemic plants for the town and surrounding areas. Additionally, the supplies and tools we need for many of the activities we conduct in our conservation, education and community projects are provided by Projects Galápagos.
Providing assistance to support us in reaching our conservation and education goals is a great way to help. If you are interested in making a donation, please get in contact with our team to discuss how you can have an impact on the preservation of the Galápagos.
The Big Wish List 27/4/2024
1. Funding to build our own Environmental Awareness Community Centre to run courses, such as English and conservation, and to have a community library and classrooms. The community and schools do not have a library.
2. Funding to license and buy or hire our own vehicle to transport volunteers to their placements, and to take our students on educational and conservation awareness trips.
3. Funding to upgrade the buildings at the Eco-Reserve, e. g. to build a new kitchen, dining room area, conservation tools area, storeroom, recreational area, nursery, conservation research area, and bedrooms.
4. Funding to upgrade technical equipment for our volunteers and classes, e. g. for a new professional printer, and 25 X I-pads for students to borrow when they are in class. Thanks to our former Projects Abroad volunteer, Helen Barnett, who started a fund-raising project to raise money for our Educational Centre, we have been able to buy 4 I-Pads for our children to use in the English programme.
5. Funding for a completely new English course for all levels, including teachers’ books, students’ book’s, audio files, workbooks, test books, video files, etc. More art supplies, and stationery, e. g. pencils, paper, cardboard, paint, scissors, notebooks, etc.
6. Linking up with overseas organisations and foundations that are willing to finance and support our projects by sponsoring specialists’ accommodation and trips to the island, for 3 months to a year, e. g. for health, education, & conservation.
7. Funding for conservation tools and equipment we can’t find in Ecuador.
8 Bikes for our volunteers to use.
