Projects Galapagos’ partners are very important and we work closely with them to achieve our and their objectives.

why partner with us?

The Galapagos Islands remained uninhabited by humans until the 19th century, thus preserving their unique menagerie of animal and plant life. In 1835 the young Charles Darwin visited the islands and made them famous in his references to their fauna and flora when he later published works about the Theory of Evolution and Natural Selection. They are a living laboratory for nature, but they also include extremely sensitive, fragile ecosystems that deserve and need to be taken care of.

Projects Galapagos was founded in 1995 by William Puga, a local Galapagueñan, who dedicated much of his career to preserving this paradise as a park ranger while for the Galapagos National Park. William could see a need to establish an organisation that would support the National Park in protecting the unique flora and fauna of the islands, and expand and support the education programmes available for the local community of San Cristobal Island. His dedication to this saw him elected twice as a town councillor for the local community on the island.  As an independent NGO, Projects Galapagos relies solely on the generosity and support of its partners, other communities, the local community, volunteers and supporters to realise its goals.

partnership opportunities

We are open to creating unique and meaningful ways for your business or organisation to become involved with us, from taking part in volunteer programmes to collaborations regarding conservation, education and community initiatives.

OFFicial partners

We have signed agreements with the Galapagos National Park, El Progreso Commune, the Ministry of Education, Team Seas, and Galapagos Conservancy. Additionally we work closely with San Cristobal Municipality, and many of our volunteers are vetted and sent by Projects Abroad. In addition to our official partners, we have developed relationships with a number of individuals and organisations that support the development and promotion of our projects, such as Galapagos Conservancy, Team Seas, and former volunteers who are committed to supporting us in different ways, such as fund raising, designing buildings, improving the eco-reserve, writing research proposals and scientific papers, and helping with the administration of our projects and volunteers.

In order to work in the school system and provide conservation activities, we work with school directors.  We have signed agreements with the Ministry of Education and are the only volunteer agency that works with them.  No one is allowed to conduct any educational programmes without their agreement, e.g. environmental education or teaching English, music, sports and arts.

We also work very closely with the Galapagos National Park (GNP) and have signed agreements to achieve its conservation goals. We are the only volunteer agency that has access to all their activities. The GNP works with the Ministry of the Environment and is the only institution that controls the conservation activities of all the Galápagos Islands.  No one can carry out any conservation activities without being approved by the Park. Our reports about how much trash we have collected and what it consists of is sent to the GNP and has been sent to Team Seas and the Galapagos Conservancy in former years.
